Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice

Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) is mobilizing the religious community in the Inland Empire, site of the largest concentration of warehouses in the world, in support of some 90,000 workers who are being organized by Warehouse Workers United (WWU) and the Change to WIN labor federation. The majority of these workers are immigrants and experience widespread violations of wage and hour and health and safety laws.

CLUE and WWU have organized hundreds of warehouse workers to demand basic labor protections and have secured support for their campaigns from both state and federal agencies that has resulted in more vigorous enforcement of worker rights and oversight of the warehouse industry.

The warehouse industry is in many ways a microcosm of how workers are being systematically denied their right to organize so as to maximize profits. The Foundation is supporting this grantee because of it and their allies have the potential to reform the conditions of employment in this industry and secure greater economic justice for warehouse workers.

2011 Grant: $35,000 for organizing warehouse workers.
